Legal & General Capital appoints Head of Strategic Land.

Legal & General Capital (LGC), the principal investment arm of Legal & General Group, has appointed Lauren Aitchison as Head of Strategic Land.

Reporting to James Lidgate, Director of Housing, Lauren will lead the management and utilisation of LGC's extensive land portfolio with potential for residential and commercial uses. Lauren will also be looking to identify new land investment opportunities, to align with the LGC's focus on the residential sector.

Lauren was previously Land Manager at Lands Improvement Holdings, a company specialising in unlocking the value of its strategic land bank totalling13,000 plots. With a focus on large-scale residential sites, Lauren's role combined asset management, development management and land sales. Lauren was previously a Partner with Strutt & Parker in its national development team, responsible for residential and mixed use schemes, acting on behalf of landowners, housebuilders, property companies and institutional clients. Her role included land acquisitions, development appraisals and the marketing of major projects.

Lauren's appointment supports LGC's strategy to deploy Legal and General Group's principal balance sheet in key UK sectors which lack scalable, institutional grade investment and which will also support economic growth. The housing sector is a key target as LGC seeks to boost Britain's housing supply across all tenures. Most recently, LGC has been active in Build to Rent investment and in February announced a joint venture with Dutch pension fund manager, PGGM, to initially invest ,~600m in the residential rental market.
