In 2016, LGC launched a business to deliver precision-engineered homes through the largest modular housing factory in the world (550,000 sq. ft.), based in Sherburn, Yorkshire. The UK has been building homes the same way for decades, primarily through manual labour on-site, but labour shortages and a systemic undersupply of new homes means modern techniques are required. Homes will be precision-engineered from a globally renowned material, cross-laminated timber, and the whole process automated.

The facility, which has more similarities to car production, aims to revolutionise house-building and deliver up to 3,500 homes per year to help alleviate the UK’s housing supply crisis.
