Laura heads up Legal & General Capital's Direct Investment team, with responsibility for repositioning the Group’s principal portfolio into strategically important direct investments in order to create new institutional asset classes and generate improved high quality earnings for the business.  She is also the Head of Urban Regeneration and Energy – two of the strategic sectors in which L&G is planning to spend a further £2bn over the next five years.  Having joined Legal & General in 2011, in her previous role as Portfolio Manager for Legal & General’s annuity business Laura helped to significantly increase the Direct Investments in the fund from £0.6bn to £3.0bn.

Phil is responsible for the deal origination and underwriting of acquisitions and sales made by Legal & General Capital.  Having secured over £1bn of assets across all four sectors over the last three years, recent notable deals made by LGC include the acquisition of a major stake in CALA Homes in 2013, one of the UK’s top 10 biggest housebuilders which Phil has since sat on the Board of as a Non-Executive Director.  They also comprise of the acquisition of a 50% stake in the £503m MediaCityUK scheme in Salford and the purchase of L&G’s first three Build to Rent sites.  Before joining Legal & General in 2007, Phil worked for AMP Capital in Australia and Asia focusing on the creation of listed and unlisted property vehicles.

Hannah is Head of Business Development at L&G Capital and is also a member of the Direct Investments team. She joined the team in 2013 and led our direct investments in Pemberton and NTR Wind Management, where she holds Non-Executive Director roles. Hannah assists in setting and maintaining strategy for LGC and in forming new potential partnerships, in particular in Infrastructure and SME finance sectors. Previously Hannah worked in private equity at LGV Capital and Cinven, and prior to that as a management consultant at Boston Consulting Group. She holds a degree from Cambridge University in Geography and Management Studies.
John Bromley

John works in the Direct Investments team and leads on investments in the clean energy sector.  His role is to explore opportunities to increase Legal & General’s exposure to the UK clean energy sector, particularly seeking long-term partnerships with developers, operators and technology providers.  John has over 10 years’ experience working in infrastructure investment, including PPP/PFI projects in the water, wastewater, waste-to-energy, health and defence sectors.  Prior to joining Legal & General, John managed an institutional equity fund with an investment portfolio of 15 utility-scale renewable energy assets (c.800MW) located throughout Europe, including onshore wind, offshore wind and solar.

Matteo is responsible for LGC’s Direct Investments in SME Equity, whilst also working across some of LGC’s other sectors.  He is a Non-Executive Director of and manages LGC’s Direct Investments in Pemberton Asset Management and Cala Homes.  Matteo joined LGC from the private equity firm Terra Firma where he worked for nine years investing in and managing asset backed-businesses.  Prior to that, Matteo worked for four years at Morgan Stanley.  He graduated from Cambridge University in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.  Matteo is an English / Italian dual national and also speaks Italian and Japanese.

James Lidgate is Director of Housing with responsibility for LGC's residential investments and acquisitions. His role is to explore all opportunities to increase L&G’s exposure to the UK’s housing sector, principally in direct investment. With responsibility for the Group’s land assets, investments in the Build to Rent sector and all residential development, James’ mandate is to increase housing supply of all tenures across the UK.  James joined LGC 2015, having previously spent almost two years as Head of Residential within Legal & General Investment Management’s Real Assets business.  Prior to that, he was Land Director at Bellway Homes, having also previously worked for the Berkeley Group and Laing Homes.

Rob is part of the Direct Investments team and works across all of LGC’s strategic sectors, but with a particular focus on both commercial and residential real estate. He is primarily involved in the origination and execution of new acquisitions for LGC and worked closely on transactions such as the purchase of a 50% stake in MediaCityUK and investments into both Cardiff Central Square and Leeds Thorpe Park. In addition to this he is responsible for managing two of LGC’s joint venture interests with Dutch partner PGGM, the £360m Bishopsgate Property Fund and £315m Vantage London Limited Partnership, having seen both investments through from initial acquisition. Rob joined LGC from LGIM Real Assets where he spent two years as an Investment Analyst. He holds a First Class Honours in Economics from the University of Exeter and the Investment Management Certificate.

Tim works in the Direct Investment team, structuring new transactions and managing existing portfolio assets with a focus on Housing, being heavily involved in LGC’s activities in the Build To Rent sector. Tim joined LGC in October 2014 from a background in corporate finance and insurance asset management, most recently at RSA where he spent five years in the investment team with focuses on commercial real estate and asset-liability management.  He graduated from the University of Otago and the University of Texas (Austin) with a degree and postgraduate diploma in Finance.

Jessica works in the Direct Investment team across all strategic sectors, structuring new transactions and managing existing portfolio assets; in Housing, Infrastructure (Regeneration and Clean Energy) and SME Finance. Jessica joined LGC in February 2015 from RBS where she spent three years working in Origination as an Analyst in the Infrastructure and Structured Corporate Finance team, structuring Project Finance debt in Renewable Energy and Corporate Finance for Transport and Oil & Gas companies.  She graduated from Strathclyde University and Arizona State University with a First Class Honours degree in International Business.

Daniel is responsible for structuring new transactions and the management of existing investments across LGC’s strategic sectors, with a particular focus on SME Finance and Infrastructure.  He joined LGC in September 2015 from Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM), where he was responsible for structuring complex solutions allowing pension schemes to hedge a variety of risks using fixed income and derivative products, having initially joined on its rotational graduate programme.  Daniel is a CFA Charterholder, and holds a First Class Honours degree in Economics from the University of Exeter, where he graduated among the top five students on his programme.

Alex works in the Direct Investment team working on both new transactions and existing assets across all sectors. He joined LGC in March 2016 from PwC where he spent just over four years working across transaction services and valuations within their M&A advisory business. Alex gained experience in a variety of different transaction types and industry sectors, although he mainly focused on Energy, Utility, Mining and Infrastructure assets. He graduated from the University of Durham with a degree in Economics and qualified as a chartered accountant whilst at PwC.
